GIGLIANA Filattiera (MS)
A fragment from the lower half of a stelae-statue. Only the extremities of the
fingers and probably the extremity of the handle of an axe are visible.
It holds as well a poignard of the rectangular type quite similar to that of
Canossa, from which it differs in the absence of the
handle:
in fact the semi-circular pommel aligns with the sheath.
This fragment was used in 1779 as a memorial plaque dedicated to works performed
at the church of Gigliana. Even the poignard was engraved with a cross and with a
balance,
the symbol of St. Michael, patron saint of the church.
It is currently located on the wall of the church tower.
