CANOSSA
Mulazzo (MS)

Found on 27 March 1972 in the locality of "al Monte" by young people from the Manfredo Giuliani cultural association of Villafranca.
It is acephalous, rigidly geometric but with a novel characteristic : it has a poignard of a different form. The grip and the pommel do not differ from the other examples but the body is rectangular, with two channels, on the margins, and terminating in three points.
This type of weapon, that can only be compared with the stelae fragment of Gigliana, probably represents, more than a poignard, a short sword or dagger with a sheath.
In the immediate vicinity, a fragement of a globe-like vase, painted with red geometric decorations, and dateable to the Iron Age, was also found.
