MONCIGOLI
- I
Fivizzano (MS)
Found at the beginning of this
century in the plain of Moncigoli.
Retraces the structure of the stelae-statue of Pontevecchio, but it
distinguishes itself in the improved formal execution and a more naturalistic
characterization of the breasts : not strongly stylized, but hemispherical and
close together at the center of the chest, as in the examples from Group B.
The arch which composes the head is narrower than the shoulders, unlike the
other stelae-statues of Group A. Besides, it also has eyes made of chalk.
For these specific details, this monument appears to be from a transition time
between the stylistic phases A and B.
