FILETTO I Villafranca
(MS)
Even though this stelae-statue bears the imprint of group B, it instead belongs
to the following group due to the clear indication of the weaponry. It still has
the laterally-expanded head (but the face is delimited by an oval relief),
the eyes are of chalk, and by the cut of the mouth.
The clavicular line and the arms are exactly like the preceding ones but the
hands have decisively realistic characteristics.
A new element is the cingulum that continues even onto the back face, like the others in
group C.
The arms consist of two javelins with conical points and a square-bladed axe with a handle with
a small rest. On the right side it holds besides a short sword with a curved handle
typical of the Hallstatt culture (900-500 B.C.). This type of weapon is also visible
on the side of Filetto II.
On the right side appears the letter sigma appears as well that is probably the first evidence
of a written form in the area.
