Permit of stay

Stay in Italy shall be granted to the foreigners who intend to live in Italy for a short or a long time. The application for the staying permit shall be forwarded by the foreigner within 8 working days as of  his/her entry into the State territory. The duration of the permit shall be that specified in the entry according to the Immigration Rules. 
The foreigners lawfully living in Italy may apply for the following permits: 
- Permit for self-employment: it is granted to the foreigners who intend to open up an activity. The permit cannot exceed 2 years.
- Permit for subordinate employment or domestic employment: it is granted to the foreigners who work for a definite or indefinite period. The permit cannot exceed 2 years. 
- Permit for seasonal employment: it is granted to the foreigners who have a seasonal work. The permit cannot exceed 6 months or 9 months in the sectors that require such an extension.
- Permit for study: it is granted to the foreigners who show the availability of enough subsistence means tor the staying period. The permit cannot exceed 1 year. It can be converted, before it expires, into a permit of stay for work, within the limits of the quotas attested by the provincial Labour Directorate. 
- Permit for health  (pregnancy): foreign woman who are pregnant. The permit cannot exceed 15 months. 
- Permit for tourism: foreigners who want to visit Italy for tourismreasons. Who lodges or gives hospitality  to them may be an Italian citizen or a foreigner with a permit of stay (or a stay card). The permit cannot exceed 3 months. 
- Permit for child born in Italy: foreign children born in Italy by parents bearing a staying permit. The duration of the document shall be that specified in the parents' permit. 
- Permit for familiar reasons: foreigners who want to be reunited to the relatives living abroad.
- Permit for women:  women who have the right to a specific permit of stay  and to a special protection program (violence victime and). The permit cannot exceed 6 months (renewable). It allows to work and to use social services. The permit can be converted.

Renewals: the applicant shall issue the same documents delivered when he requested the first permit.

Documents all types of permit: - Application on printed form avaible in the Police Headquarters; - personal and relatives' data; - entry visa showing birthplace and reasons of stay; - 4 passport - size photos; - passport.

- Permit for self-employment: - copy of the passport; - copy of the sanitary card; - copy of the fiscal code; - 4 passport - size photos; -  revenue stamp; -  self-certification of residence; - copy of  the VAT number; -  copy of the licence for trade on the public property; - copy of the income tax return; - enrolment to the Chamber of Commerce.

- Permit for subordinate employment: - copies of the last three paypacket; - declaration of the employer; - copy of the employment card; - registration as unemployment (who change the permit for employment into  a permit for employment waiting).

- Permit for domestic employment: - copy of the INPS payments; - copy of employer's identity paper; - copy of the employment card; - declaration of the employer.

- Permit for seasonal employment: - revenue stamp; -  work agreement.

For renewals: - previous permit; - return ticket.

 - Permit for study: - a revenue stamp; - copy of the sanitary card or copy of the payments for the insurance policy that  may be six-monthly or one-year; - certificate of enrolment at the University  or an other institute; - copy of the undergraduate's record book; - self-certification of residence; - documentation about  the keep in Italy (copy of the bancomat or credit card, declaration issued by the bank).

- Permit for health: - a revenue stamp; - sanitary card; - certification issued by the competent ASL showing the presumed date of birth.

- Permit for tourism: - a revenue stamp; - declaration of hospitality; - copy of the host's identity paper;

- Permit for child born in Italy: - extreat of birth or self-certification with maternity and paternity; - 4 passport sized photos of the minor; - copy of the permit to stay in which the child shall be registered;

- Permit for familiar reasons: - copy of the passport; - copy of the sanitary card; - copy of the fiscal code; 
- 4 passport sized photos; - a revenue stamp;- self-certification about family status self -certification of residence issued by the foreigner living in Italy.
