Stay card

Who: Are eligible to apply for the stay card the foreigners who meet all these requirements:

a)       They currently live and reside in Italy

b)       They have a renewable permit of stay

The cohabitant husband/wife and/or sons may also apply for a stay card. The applicant must show the availability of means of subsistence to support the family. 
These separate categories may also apply for a stay card: the foreign child under eighteen, or the foreign parent or the foreign wife/husband living with an Italian citizen or with a citizen of a European Union Member State residing in Italy.    The foreign spouse and/or the foreign child under eighteen who is rejoining an Italian citizen or with a citizen of a Union Member State or with a citizen from a country outside the European Community bearing a stay card.  Foreign child under eighteen, who has been given a permit of stay for family reasons, when he is just turned 18. Foreign child under eighteen registered on parent's (or legal guardian's) stay card, when he is just turned 14.

The stay card is issued within three months since application. It shall be extended every ten years. 
The stay card allows to travel without visas.

Documents: The application shall be delivered to the Questura (Police Headquarters) of the city where the foreign resides. The applicant shall state his/her full name and address, the place or places where he/she has resided in the prevoius five years, his/her income sources and the amount. Printed forms for application are avaible at police immigration office. 
The applicant shall attache the following documents to the  form: - copy of the passport (or equivalent document) or copy of the identification document issued by the competent Italian authority with the applicant's date and place of birth; - copy of the income tax return or the model 101 issued by the employer relating to the previous year; - certificate of the criminal records office and certificate of enrolment in relation to pending criminal suits; -  4 passport-size photographs; the work agreement not subject to any time limit or uninterrupted during the last 5 years period; - copy of the fiscal code. When the application relates to the spouse or/and to the children living with the applicant they shall produce documents proving: - status of the spouse or the child under eighteen years of age. The certificates issued by competent authority of the foreign State shall be authenticated by the Italian consular authority (It shall certify that the translation into Italian languages is true to original); - copy of lease or house property act to show the avaibility of a dwelling; - certificate issued by the municipal technical office stating the house suitability or the certificate of hygienic and sanitary fitness issued by the local health administration (ASL 5); - self-certified document attesting that the applicant has never been condemned for crimes. (Printed forms avaible at the police immigration office). When the application for the card is made by the foreign spouse or parent living with  an Italian citizen or with a citizen of a European Union Member State residing in Italy, the applicant shall state not only his/her full name and address but also that of the spouse and the child with whom he/she lives. When the application for a stay card relates to a foreign children under eighteen it shall be made by the parent having the parental right.
