Chiesa
di San Frediano
Already mentioned in 1061, it has in the façade
the typical forms of the Pisan architecture of that time introduced by
Buscheto in the Cathedral. In origin it was also dedicated to San Martin,
and had annexed a hospital. The basilical plan interior with nave and
two aisles has decorated marble columns and capitals. The altars’
furniture was restored in the XVI and XVII centuries. It keeps a large,
rare cross painted on a gilt board with Crucifix and "Stories of
the Passion" (XII century), Baroque altars and XVII century
paintings by Ventura Salimbeni ("Annunciation and Nativity"),
Aurelio Lomi ("Adoration of the Magi"), and frescoes by
Domenico Passignano; the frescoes in the done are by Rutilio Manetti. |
