This great brick complex was
begun in 1276; in 1343 new rooms were added, the church was raised, new
chapels were built near the presbytery. During the 15th century the
building was modified again. Inside, the single nave ends in three apse
chapels; along the walls five altars have been set destroying the 14th
century frescoes, of which remains only an image of "Saint
Christopher". Among the works, a 16th century wooden "Crucifix",
the "Annunciation and Saints" by Curradi, a wooden statue
representing"Saint Anthonyof Padova" made in 1716, the "Assumption
of the Holy Virgin", attributed to Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio, the
"Saint Michael the Archangel" by Bartolomeo Sprangher. |
