Why "Luigi Baldi" ?

Three years after the birth of Associazione Pisana di Scienze Naturali e dell'Uomo "Luigi Baldi", i feel the need, rather the duty to answer a question wich in these years i heard many times: why Luigi Baldi? Yes! Why dedicate a naturalistic Association right to Luigi Baldi?

I knew Luigi about ten years ago, when i entered a mineralogical Association, and immediately we started a deep friendship, either because we shared some passions like the music (we both belonged, in youth, to musical bands), or because of Luigi's personality, ever jovial, ready for the diligence;but above all because Luigi was the living demonstration of an old theory:

a great passion and a constant care can bring a man to get greatest satisfation in any field.

Luigi was born in 1942 in a modest family from Castelfalfi; transferred in our Province, since his youth he devoted himself into work, yet he gave not up his favourite hobbies, botany and photography. Luigi was able to combine remarkablement such passions, wich became for him concrete work of learn and research.

His studies brought him to "run about", often with his friend Luigi Gentili, here and there around our muntains and hills, always looking for his beloved orchids, identifying also some new species. He cooperated, with great competence, together with botany expert scientists and professors; with Bruno Barsella collaborated to birth and development of G.I.R.O.S. (Gruppo Italiano Ricerca Orchidee Spontanee).

Luigi should be for us all an example and a constant spur to pursue in our diligence for naturalistic culture diffusion, in order that others can reach the same great satisfactions, and above all so as through our constant action and care, Luigi will be never dead.
